Temple Vitae - The Process
The inspiration for this project came from a study of sacred geometry and earthworks such as Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty or Nancy Holt's Sun Tunnels. I began thinking about my connection to the natural world and its symbols. The complete temple is made from recycled canvas cut into 20 triangles in various sizes. A labyrinth, which I hand sewed on my Grandmother's sewing machine on the rooftop of my carport, consists of 5 of those triangles creating a pentagon shape as the base housing an 18' dual-path labyrinth. The dual-path idea came after considering the number of people interested in participating at once. Since Burning Man is a festival that serves 60k people, I decided why not come in together, go separate paths, pass each other in the center and continue on alone. Or walk one path together all the way through.
No sacred space is without emotion. Inside the temple was a sound system that looped the song of the didgeridoo. There was also a black light that set the mood for. a lovely walking meditation.

Why Create Sacred Space?
Sacred space is essential to healing, raising consciousness, transformation, and unity. Providing a container to delineate that which is Sacred and that which is not Sacred gives us the ability to flow between the Sacred and un-Sacred in a more loving way. The interplay of all Divinity, whether Sacred or not, comes more to the forefront of our consciousness. And should we choose to do so, we can raise, transform, or transmute the level of this Divinity with our new found consciousness and understanding of all Divinity as it is delineated by the Sacred. www.sacredspaces.org

My work has evolved to reflect my earthly connection and personal devotion to the sacred through a path of discovery that is both personal and universal.
